Reviva Medical Laser & Vein Clinic is one of the first clinics in British Columbia who was invited to evaluate the Alma Accent Laser.

Accent is a state-of-the-art radiofrequency heating source for aesthetic and cosmetic applications.

The Accent system is the ONLY system on the market which provides two types of radiofrequency technology: Unipolar and Bipolar.

The unique dual radio-frequency technology RF2 provides controlled volumetric tissue heating to two distinct depths of tissue. The heat from the Bipolar RF hand-held wand penetrates between 2-6mm into tissue – reaching adipose tissue and cellulite. Heating to these tissue depths therapeutically improves local circulation, promotes fibrous tissue breakdown, and helps to manage areas subject to edema by promoting the re-absorption and drainage of retained fluids and toxins. Accent RF technology may facilitate and enhance the breakup of adipose (fat) tissue thereby helping to mobilize and eliminate fat deposits – non-invasively.

The Accent Unipolar hand–held wand allows deep controlled penetration of RF and contains an RF –resonant system, a thermo-electric coupling (TEC) cooler and a red push button for activating the system. This is a very powerful means of selectively targeting fat and deep tissue which results in controlled lipolysis as well as tissue tightening. The procedure is fast and safe; involving no wound care or patient down time. You will be surprised how much more comfortable it is compared with earlier radiofrequency technology.

We have performed hundreds of successful treatments with the Accent device and the results have been very encouraging.

Compared with earlier technologies, fewer treatment sessions are needed to achieve significant reduction in fat deposits. You should see a very noticeable change after the second or third treatment and the effects are long-lasting. Maintenance treatment every three to six months is reasonable so long as the you combine with a healthy diet and regular exercise.

We have found that both men and women respond well to the Accent treatment. There is no age limit( the only contraindication is pregnancy and people with implantable pacemaker and defibrillators)

Depending upon severity, 5-8 treatments are usually needed for optimum results and maintenance treatments may be needed from time to time. However, we believe that the result is long-lasting so long as you follow a proper healthy diet and regular exercise program.

Is the body contouring treatment painful?

Unlike earlier radiofrequency technology, Accent treatment is not painful. You will feel the skin become warmer as the area is treated; most people find the treatment to be quite comfortable and anesthetics are not required for the procedure.

Are there any side-effects?

The technology is very safe. It is possible to experience superficial burns from a radiofrequency device; however, the intricate design of the Accent makes the waveform extremely safe when applied to the skin. Our professional staff is extremely well trained with the Accent device and we have not encountered any significant side effects.

How effective is the body contouring treatment?

We have seen excellent response in our clients who choose the Accent procedure. 50% see some tightening and fat reduction after even a single treatment; however, almost every single patient will see a very noticeable difference by the third treatment.

Who is not a candidate for body contouring treatments?

Almost anyone with the proper indications can be treated with the Accent, but it is not recommended for patients with implanted pacemakers or defibrillators because the radiofrequency will interfere with these devices. Patients who suffer from any skin infections as well as collagen vascular diseases are also not suitable candidates. Reviva Medical Laser& Vein Clinic reserves the right to refuse treatment to clients with unrealistic expectations as to the procedure’s efficacy.

Does the Accent promote weight loss?

The only proven method of weight loss is with a proper diet and exercise program.

Can cellulite be treated with the Accent?

The Accent was made for cellulite treatment. We also offer combined treatment modalities that work in combination with radiofrequency.

Will you treat pregnant women?

We do not perform any elective cosmetic procedures on any pregnant patients. However, we can treat an individual as soon as she has recovered from childbirth by restoring her skin tone and removing excess fat.

How does the Accent compare with previous technologies?

There have been many different technologies introduced in the past ten years for the treatment of fat and cellulite. Spa devices such as an endomologie (eg. LPG/M6) rely on mechanical massage, which literally vacuums up small sections of skin between rollers to improve microcirculation and elongate the fibrous septae which contribute to the dimpling appearance. Other devices, such as Velasmooth, TriActive, and Med-sculpt, employ a combination of light, suction, low level bipolar radiofrequency, and ultrasound to break up fat deposits as well as to mobilize tissues and temporarily improve local circulation. The latter devices are definitely more effective than an endomologie in treating cellulite.

These modalities are all somewhat effective in improving the appearance of cellulite, at least temporarily. However, they require multiple sessions initially scheduled twice a week as well as frequent maintenance sessions once or twice a month in the long term. It typically takes 6-10 sessions before the patient possibly begins to see any change, and the change is often less than dramatic.

Mesotherapy has also been used to reduce fat and treat cellulite. Mesotherapy involves multiple injections (80-120) of pharmacological active compounds in the subcutaneous level. It usually takes two to four sessions before the patient sees any result, and in most cases a series of 6-12 treatments are necessary. However, some patients are quite bothered by the pain, redness, bruising and swelling that occur after the multiple injections. One option, no-needle mesotherapy, involves the use of high frequency ultrasound and lightwaves to drive the drugs into the skin without injecting them. It is less effective than mesotherapy.
