Causes Of Cellulite
By: Teresa Hall
Does knowing the causes of cellulite help you prevent it or is the only option to improve the unsightly texture of your skin? Cellulite are those lumpy, bumpy ugly patches of fat on your thighs – and probably on your backside – that just won’t go away no matter how hard you try. Exercise and diet don’t seem to make a dent in the lumps.
The reason for their persistence is the fact that cellulite is not caused by being overweight. Perfectly proportioned and even downright skinny women get cellulite. The prime causes of cellulite are genetics and a lack of elasticity in the skin. In a slightly more defined explanation, cellulite is caused by fat cells that get a little too big for their skin cells.
Because cellulite is primarily a women’s issue, many doctors believe that one of the causes of cellulite is estrogen, specifically too much estrogen. Many women develop cellulite after they deliver a baby or while they are on oral contraceptives – in other words, both times when a woman’s estrogen levels are particularly high. It could be that the body just can’t get rid of the massive amounts of estrogen and develops that cottage cheese texture as a failed attempt to do so.
Another potential explanation for cellulite is lifestyle. You have a higher likelihood of developing cellulite if you eat an unhealthy diet, have poor circulation and tend to retain fluids. You also greatly increase your odds of cellulite if you spend too much time sitting down. That’s right: sitting on your backside can lead to those ugly dimples of cellulite.
While doctors aren’t 100 percent sure what causes cellulite, these are likely contributors to the ugly lumps and bumps that love to hang out on your thighs and bottom. Treatment for cellulite usually involves cosmetic adjustments from your doctor.
